About the Rabbit Administrators
From RabbitWiki
Our Team of Rabbit Administrators:
- Lambda (Brian Campbell) — wiki sysadmin
- Jeep (Joseph Peterson ) — wiki sysadmin
- Prisoner (Allen Firstenberg)
- Ryanker (Ryan McGuire)
- Amalas (Melissa Parish)
- CarolT (Carol Townsend)
This small team of Rabbits - called the Rabbit Administrators - are working closely with Looney Labs to help guide the creation of this wiki. If you need help from the admins, go to the Admin Requests page.
[edit] What it means to be a Rabbit Admin
Administrators are a group of people that have two distinct roles. One is technical: They have access to special tools that regular editors don't have. The other role is more subjective: They are editors who are respected in the rabbit community, that have earned the trust of their peers and proven themselves to be knowledgeable and capable, and who also have a level of extra knowledge about the direction Looney Labs is trying to take this project.
[edit] Technical side
Things that an admin can do:
- Protect pages There will be few pages that will be protected from regular editors. Most articles will not be protected, as their entire purpose is to be edited. However, there will be some in the "business" namespace that we don't want random people changing. "These are the Rules" type pages would need to be protected.
- Delete pages On the small scale of the Rabbit Wiki (compared to Wikipedia) there won't be a huge need to delete pages. It will probably be on a case-by-case basis and most likely requested by the page creator.
- Block and unblock Hopefully this won't be an issue. However, vandalism will happen. There will occasionally be IPs, or even registered users, that violate the system. These users can simply be blocked from editing to prevent future problems.
- Revert Any user can remove vandalism from an article, but admins have a quick "rollback" link to do so easily. Admins, and regular editors, should check "Recent changes" frequently to prevent vandalism from appearing in articles.
- Interface Admins can also change how things look in the Wiki. This is usually the job of a couple of very technical people; most admins don't do this on a regular basis.
[edit] Subjective side
Admins are generally seen as being very knowledgeable, not only with respect to the wiki tools, but also with respect to the rabbit community and demo program itself. The first set of admins were selected by Kristin not only to help administrate this wiki, but to help spec out the software development project that was to be our new fan reward program.
With the decision to turn off the old system before we even design the new one, this system architecture project is being put on hold - while Looney Labs focuses on launching and promoting Zombie Fluxx, and the Rabbits dig in and build this wiki into whatever they manage to build it into by the time Looney Labs is ready to dig in and design the new fan reward program. The first project in the hands of the Rabbit Admins is to decide what software would be best suited to run some all new Looney Labs Discussion Forums, to advise Looney Labs of their options, and then get it all up and running... talk to one of the Admins if you have opinions on what the best forum software would be for the needs of the Rabbit community.
More admins will certainly be added over time as the project expands. In Wikipedia, there is a long, formal peer review process that is fairly difficult, but on the much smaller scale of this wiki, a simple email to the Looneys explaining why you think you should be an admin is the place to start if you are interested in being considered to join the Rabbit Admin team.
