Things work a little differently in The Lab for 2008 – READ THIS SHEET – help us spread the new vibe!

Contents

[edit] The Basics

  • No "collect-little-stickers/win-a-flower" this year
  • You can wear your lab coat all weekend long. Top Rabbits won’t ask you to work / run demos
  • Show up early for scheduled demos
  • Demo spontaneously if you want to
  • Have tons of fun – it’s contagious!

[edit] New Demo Policy

We are NOT doing the Collect-Little-Stickers-To-Earn-A-Happy-Flower thing this year, and only the first table when you enter The Lab is staffed with a Demo Rabbit. We have a full schedule of tournaments, and we want to welcome visitors into the lab to play games with us, but we are not offering as many formal demos this year. If there are no Rabbits on hand to teach, the Top Rabbit will encourage visitors to borrow a demo copy and come in and play a game on their own. You can still run spontaneous demos anytime you want… you can 1) yell “anyone want to play GAME-X” and be willing to teach if a player needs help, or 2) keep an eye on the front door and come offer to play/teach when visitors show up, or 3) tell the Top Rabbit you want to run demos, in which case you should hang around the front area until they get you into a game. The Top Rabbit will NOT come looking for you unless you explicitly tell them to do so.

[edit] New Lab Coat Policy

If you want to dress like a Rabbit at Origins, you can wear your lab coat around the convention all weekend long, and the Top Rabbit WILL NOT ask you to work if you are not on the schedule. Ask the Top Rabbit if you want to borrow a lab coat for the weekend! Please fill your pockets with Lab Reports and proclaim “Please come play games with us in The Lab!” while giving out a Lab Report to anyone who seems curious as to why you are dressed in a lab coat.

[edit] Big Experiment Ribbon

If you hang around in The Lab all weekend, you need a Big Experiment Ribbon. But if you work just 4 hours on our schedule, helping run things, you can get your ribbon for free. 16 hours gets you an Origins badge, 20 hours gets you a badge and a ribbon! New visitors will be encouraged to hang out and play for a while before they either fall in love with our games and buy a Ribbon for themselves or just pay generic tickets for the time they played with us. It is not your job to enforce anything related to the Open Gaming Ticket Box – if anyone asks about how this works, point them to the Top Rabbit.

[edit] Above all else…

Please make sure you are having fun – the fun is contagious!

[edit] If you are signed up to work as a Demo Rabbit…

[edit] Scheduled Demos in The Lab

Show up for your scheduled demo time at least 10 minutes early, and report to the Top Rabbit. Let them know which games you know how to demo. Ask the Demo Rabbit whose shift is ending if they need to rush off, in which case you can take over their game – otherwise start up a new game! Your job is to keep games running at the demo table throughout your shift, offering to teach new visitors to play whichever game they wish to learn (that you know how to teach.)

[edit] When you are not busy with a demo...

...please help the Top Rabbit keep the demo copies tidy. Familiarize yourself with the schedule so that you know what tournaments are running during your shift so you can help direct people to the right spots. The Top Rabbit will greet people and help them find you for a demo – be aware of people coming in and try to include new folks in your demos as often as possible. Our games scale really well – some like to watch a game first before they jump in and play themselves. If new players are waiting to learn, ask those you have been playing with for a while if they could move off on their own to one of the other tables in The Lab so you can teach new people at your demo table. You do not need to collect tickets – when people ask, tell them to talk to the Top Rabbit about our Open Gaming Ticket Box.

[edit] Demo Rabbit in the Looney Labs Booth

Please show up for your shift on time (5 minutes early is best) and please don’t plan to leave early, unless you arrange for someone to cover for you. Your goal for demo games played in the booth is to show a lot of different people the current thing Looney Labs is promoting. You want to get new players into the seats at your table as often as is reasonable. Have fun, encourage sales, and tell everyone about The Lab when they want to play again!

Thanks for helping us run The Big Experiment – we couldn’t do it without you!
