Martian Coasters
From RabbitWiki
Martian coasters are, by themselves, considered a gaming accessory. A pack of Martian Coasters consists of 4 fairly cheap cardboard squares with game boards printed on them. The Coasters are intended to be used as a small, 3x3 game board, for a single Treehouse set. But of course, as with the entire Icehouse system, they are quite useful in a wide variety of other games:
- Zamboni Wars
- Mundialito
- Ambush
(For a complete list, see the IceWiki.)
[edit] Background
In 2006, after seeing some success of the repackaging and rebranding of the Icehouse system as Treehouse, there was some interest in seeing more games available for just one Treehouse set. Martian coasters fit that need perfectly. A question Lab Rabbits will sometimes get is "Yeah, but what else can I play?" Martian Coasters are quite cheap, and open up a bunch of news games you can demo. (See also, World War 5)
[edit] Comments
Gameplay is fairly straightforward. You are trying to get your nest onto your home coaster, by shifting the coasters around and generally hampering your opponents. This is a truly stupendous game to whip out at bars, coffee shops, and wedding receptions.
There are three known variants:
- The 5th coaster, available directly from looney labs
- The 3D Coasters Cube available as a print-and-play PDF download.
- 5-coaster Billiards, as posted on BGG.
Martian coasters is a pretty good game for younger players, but here's a nice primer on what to do when kids show up at your demo.
