Is it possible to make a button to create a "printable version", or is it just easier to have the user cut-and-paste to a text program and print from there?

If you just print the page out, it should just print a printable version without the logo, navigation, tabs, and so on. It uses a CSS print stylesheet for this, so there's no need for a button, just try printing the page out. — λ 21:21, 10 March 2011 (PST)
