[edit] Specifics

  • Zombie Fluxx premiered in October, 2007.
  • Zombie Fluxx is an "expanded version" of Fluxx.
    • there are 100 cards in Zombie Fluxx; Fluxx has 84 cards.
    • there are two new card types: Creepers and Ungoal.
  • Zombie Fluxx is also the first Fluxx game in English to be illustrated by someone outside of Looney Labs.
  • Zombie Fluxx illustrations are in full color.
  • The card types (Goal, Keeper, Action, etc) use a "dripping font" that no other Fluxx deck uses.
    • This font will help you separate back out your Zombie Fluxx deck if you shuffle it in with other decks.
  • Some cards (see below) have a special mark in the bottom left corners.
    • This mark resembles the "dripping font" used in the main card type titles.
    • This mark is to help identify those cards to take out when not playing with Zombies in the simplified learner's game.
  • Zombie Fluxx brings back some cards that have been or are currently in other Fluxx editions.
    • Coffee and Donuts are back - they were in Fluxx v2.0
    • Brains (plural) - "The Brain" is a standard Fluxx card.
    • A Friend - there were also two Friends in Stoner Fluxx
  • As with all Fluxx products, Zombie Fluxx is fully compatible with all other Fluxx decks. Zombie Fluxx is also a full standalone game.
  • Because of Zombie Fluxx, the order of "Draw 1, Play 1" was discussed extensively on the Fluxx list.
    • The question: is it required that you must draw before you play?
    • Why is this important? For example, the Zombie Quartet is placed back on the top of the draw pile - some plays may be advantageous to do before drawing that Creeper.
    • Andy answered this question completely in his Live Journal blog
    • Final decision: You must follow all the rules at some time during your turn, but drawing first is not required.
  • Full 2-sided Rules sheet:
    • "Already know how to play Fluxx?" on one side.
      • New Card Types and Icons are explained.
      • Zombies and how to kill them are explained.
    • "First time playing a Fluxx game?" on the other side.
      • Full basic rules are included on this side.
      • "Playing Without Zombies" is the suggested way to play for beginners.
  • "THE Zombies!!! Board Game" advertising card.

[edit] Trivia

  • A Male Friend is a good likeness of Andy, and the Female Friend is a good likeness of Kristin.
  • The license plate number on The Car is the Looney Labs SKU for Zombie Fluxx.
  • Andy is known for always groaning whenever he plays a Zombie Creeper - whether Groaning Required is in play or not.

[edit] Notes

  • Creepers are a new card type with this edition of Fluxx. When you draw a Creeper, you play it face up in front of you immediately and draw to replace it.
    • When the Draw rule is Draw 2 or greater, it may be easiest to set you hand aside while you are drawing. (this example/advice bit is by Carol and is not part of the rules or cards)
      • For example, when you are ready to draw, set your hand aside.
      • Draw the number of cards needed to comply with the current Draw rule; see if you've got any Creepers in what you've drawn.
      • If so, put the Creepers face up in front of you (Groaning as necessary) and continue.
      • Draw again to replace the Creepers, putting any new Creepers down, until you've got the correct number of cards in your hand that match the Draw rule.
        • For example, if the Rule is "Draw 3" and you draw 2 Zombies and an Action, put the Zombies down and Draw 2 more cards... if you get 1 Zombie in THAT draw, put it down and draw another card. Continue this until you have 3 Non-Zombie cards to add to your hand.
      • Pick your hand back up and continue your turn.
  • The descriptions of the zombies ("little girl," "fashion model," etc.) are not "canon" - I made them up as a way to help differentiate cards and can be changed at any time. Carol 17:31, 6 October 2007 (PDT)

[edit] Playing Without Zombies

If you are new to Fluxx or are playing with those who are new to Fluxx, it is suggested that you leave out the Zombies for the first game or two so folks can get used to how Fluxx works.
